Junior Web/Graphic Designer
Salary: £14k - £18k
Hours: 40 hours per week
This position would suit a recent graduate in relevant design discipline or someone with 6-12 months studio experience. Shortlisted candidates will be given a creative brief and mac test to demonstrate competency.
Objectives of the role:
- You are expected to carry out design work, as part of the creative team, producing creative design solutions
Main tasks and responsibilities:
With support, you are expected to undertake various stage(s) of a design project, such as:
- Taking a brief and interpreting the information contained within the job bag
- Producing ideas and concepts, either individually or as part of a team
- Produce design solutions
- Prepare visuals for client presentations
- Take forward design solutions, incorporating client feedback and create layouts using supplied content to the agreed project specification
- Liaise with clients and job manager throughout the job to carry out amendments and refinements
- Learn to create print ready artwork and how to develop your ideas into web based solutions
- You will be supported and mentored throughout the design process by the Creative Director and Senior Designers who will be available to provide training on all aspects of the design process and Optima’s policies regarding design work as required.
In order to be effective and carry out design and web development work to the required standard you will also:
- Develop competency using design software, primarily: Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator. Online training resources are made available for all staff to utilise and keep their skills up-to-date
- Be competent in Microsoft Office software for use as a communication tool at Optima as well as being able to provide clients with template files for use in their business
- Be experienced building well-structured HTML templates with elegant CSS to W3C standards compliance and WCAG awareness
- Be responsible for maintaining own computer workstation, including software, make backups and system updates
- Liaise with clients and suppliers as required in a professional manner
- Complete work to agreed deadlines and time parameters
- Communicate job information to Production Manager and job manager throughout the lifetime of the project, in particular the use of time
- Complete timesheets logging all time spent each day
- Adhere to Optima’s procedures for the checking of work and assist others with this procedure
- Use correct procedures for the naming of work and the backup/archiving process
- Understand the influence of search engines on web design
- Have pixel perfect attention to detail
The following skills, although not essential, would also be advantageous:
- Implementing JavaScript and JavaScript libraries
- Building websites on content management systems
- Flash and ActionScript 3
- PHP and MySQL
